Literature Text

The battles rage throughout night
And ever in my dreams
This war that wages deep in me
Ne'er quite does end it seems.

Though oft I weary through each day
The pain I try to hide
This guilt and hell, oh, that I feel
Is what I must survive.

You will not know or easy see
If I can have my way
What it is I'm going through —
My weakness in a way.

The cries for help I muffle now,
Thought a coward I'll not be
Ev'n though I know the greatest strength
Comes from outside me.

The guns and bombs I did survive
But maybe not the war
The scars I have are hidden well
You do not know the score.
A ballad about the daily struggles with the aftermath of going to a war.

My friend, the rhyme here first of all deserves mention. The rhyme is distinctly slanted but you have done remarkably well with it. Thoroughly. The remainder is as you must have set, a free verse style. The general layout of this poem is really sharp. I am seeing either a rapidly developing newcomer or a long term stylistic writer like me. In either case, your style is certainly welcome.
As to expression, you make me wonder, at least, what the battles are that rage in you. You have told that it wearies you and you attempt to hide the pain of it. You make me think of the pop song Better Man. Perhaps you wrote this while listening?
